Obituary for
William Frank Gustafson
Bill passed away on August 2, 2017 in Polson, Montana. William (Bill) Frank Gustafson was born in Anaconda, MT on September 8, 1930 to (William) Henry and Anna Marie (Roeder) Gustafson.
Bill grew up in Anaconda where his father worked as a smelterman for the ACM Co.
He was preceded in death by his mother Anna Marie (Roeder), his father (William) Henry Gustafson, and sister Gretchen Swanson.
He is survived by his wife Beverly (Arensmeyer), sister Shirley Thorpe, brother Charles Gustafson, daughters, Bonnie Calhoun and husband Mark, Laura Dickie and husband Jim, Anita Matosich and husband Don, son Frank Gustafson and wife Mimi, grandchildren Michael and Grace Calhoun, Ashley Mehaffie and husband Carl, Jordan Matosish and wife Nikki, Emily Matosich, and great grandchild Carter Matosich.
Bill graduated from Anaconda High School in 1948 then served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He graduated from the University of Montana in 1961 with a Masters of Education Degree. On December 28, 1958 he married Beverly Arensmeyer and they raised their four children in Anaconda Montana. He taught Math and Science at Anaconda Senior High school for 32 years. Bill and his wife Beverly were active members of First Lutheran/Hope Lutheran Church of Anaconda. In their later years, Bill and Beverly lived in Goodyear Arizona and Polson Montana.
In addition to being a teacher, Bill was an artist who created several beautiful paintings that are deeply treasured by his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially the annual family reunions at Flathead Lake Montana.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at The Lake Funeral Home, 101 Sixth Avenue East, Polson, MT. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran World Hunger Program.
