William "Hugh" Frazier
William 'Hugh' Frazier, 84, of Polson, MT died on April 2, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital, Polson. Hugh was born on Jan. 18, 1927 in Jordan, MT, a son of George & Ethel Frazier. Hugh graduated from Polson High School in 1945, in the middle of his senior year so that he could follow his two brothers and sister into the military service where he served two years in the Navy. He served as a radar man on a destroyer and after WWII he served on a minesweeper. Following his military service, he attended Farragut Technical Institute and graduated from their refrigeration and air conditioning school. He also spent some time as a lookout for the U.S. Forest Service. After his marriage to Leona Hewitt in 1948 he was employed by a propane company in Kalispell and remained in the propane business for most of the rest of his life. He owned a propane company in Moses Lake, WA that he built and operated with his wife, Leona. They then sold the business in 1987. He retired to Polson where he continued to work part-time with propane until he was 75 years old.When Hugh was younger, he liked to hunt and fish and in his later years he enjoyed watching sports on television and became a 'Grizz' fan. Hugh regularly attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson where he is remembered as a 'nice but quiet man' and was also a member of the VFW. Besides his parents, two brothers, George and T.D. Frazier, precede Hugh in death. Survivors include a son, Gary Frazier of Moses Lake, WA: a daughter, Wendy Schmidt of Los Alamos, NM: a sister, Shirley Brantner of Polson: and two grandchildren, Tony Schmidt of Tucson, AZ and Kris Schimdt of Spokane, WA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011, 12:00 PM, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson. Military Honors will follow the service outside of the church.
