Obituary for
Wilbert Overtt "Buck" Weaver
Wilbert O. (Buck) Weaver was born in Harrisville, West Virginia on May 14, 1924 to Gleston W. and Arvilla Layfield Weaver. He was the oldest of four brothers. Buck graduated from Parkersburg High School and joined the US Navy on his 17th birthday, in 1941. He served in thirteen battles in the Pacific and European theatres on the USS Jenkins (DD447). He was honorably discharged on March 13, 1947. Buck then joined the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC until being called back into the military for the Korean War. While in the police department, he also served as one of President Harry Truman’s bodyguards. He served aboard the USS John A. Bole (DD755) from August 1, 1950 until March 28, 1954 and was honorably discharged in San Diego, CA. Buck applied for a job with the City of San Diego Police Department. He was accepted and served until his retirement on June 1, 1978. Now off to Montana.
On April 4, 1980, he married Sandra Tollefson Riebe and started to enjoy his retirement, which included a lot of golfing, fishing and camping. Getting bored with retirement, he went to work for the Polson Golf Course for 13 years. After several moves in the Polson area, he settled out in the Valley View area to a place he named The Dam Dump Ranch. Declining health in the last 5 years limited his mobility and he passed away on December 19, 2017.
Buck was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Bill, Bob and Jim Weaver, and a son Jeffrey Scott Weaver.
Buck is survived by his wife Sandy of 37 years, son Jon Weaver (Oxnard, CA), stepdaughter Judy Holmes (Cathedral City, CA), stepchildren Becky Riebe Noles (Frank) Lolo, MT, Rick Riebe (Polson, MT) Tracy Ohler (Polson, MT) and his beloved canine friend Buddy.
Special thanks to all his caregivers at Polson Health & Rehab, Lakeview Health Care, St Luke’s Extended Care, Addus Home Care, St Joseph Hospital Doctors & Staff and to Dr. Adam Smith.
At Bucks request, no service will be held. A family gathering is planned for some time in the summer.
