Warren “Babe” Hirst, age 84, passed away January 20, 2023, in Polson. He was born in Polson, on July 18, 1938, the middle son of Emmett and Belva Hirst.
Babe was a much loved and respected son, brother, friend and uncle to three generations of nieces and nephews (one of whom called him “Uncle Worm,” not able to pronounce Warren.)
He survived near-death kidney disease in elementary school. This experience must have toughened him as Babe really enjoyed competition for the rest of his life. He played high school basketball and went to the state championship with his Polson Pirate team.
His love for gaming and sports never left him. Card games (many trips to Vegas and Reno), golf, bowling and all forms of TV athletic events were his passion.
Babe was a beloved elementary school teacher in Anchorage, AK for nearly 35 years. He loved teasing and cajoling kids, and they loved him for it. His positive influence and legacy lives on. Babe was always super kind and generous to all, and he will always be remembered as a GOOD WILL AMBASSADOR.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Forrest “Hut.”
He is survived by his brother Gary and sister-in-law Marcia, their daughters, Lisa Gaston and Kristen Hirst, and numerous extended family.
