Virginia Mary Steinkraus
Virginia (Ginny) Steinkraus, 88, of Polson, MT, left us on August 13, 2011. She was born January 10, 1923 in Colorado Springs, the third and youngest child of Guy and Grace Harwood. Growing up, she enjoyed skiing and hiking in the mountains, particularly her beloved Pikes Peak. She was an accomplished figure skater. She enjoyed her unique education at Cheyenne Mountain High School and graduated from the University of Colorado. She married Donald Hendry of St. Louis in 1945 and they had two sons, Richard (Ricky) and Donald Jr., who tragically all died in an automobile accident. In 1953, she married Willard Steinkraus and they settled in Waterloo, Iowa. Their daughter Robin was born in 1955 and their son David was born in 1959. She was active volunteering with her childrens' school and activities, community service, church, and working for many years as a bookkeeper. Ginny and Willard retired to Polson in 1985 where they enjoyed many years of volunteering, golfing and grandchildren together. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and their two sons, her brother Gene Harwood, and sister Paula Edwards. She is survived by her husband Willard: her daughter Robin and her husband Mark Potter of Polson, and grandchildren Teal and Luke: and by her son David and grandson Nick of Santa Fe, New Mexico. A memorial service will be held on September 25 at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Polson. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online by visiting www.groganfuneralhome.com.
