Obituary for
Thomas James Devlin
Thomas James Devlin was born to LaVere and Ward Devlin on Nov. 2, 1950. It was certified at Saint Joseph hospital in Polson, as was his passing on Nov. 30, 2017.
Tom excelled as an athlete and musician during his high school and University of Montana school days. Highly regarded for his musical gift, his generosity of spirit, engaging personality and his "straight arrow" temperance, he was a natural for a career as a performer.
Tom became the bass-playin', lead-singin' attraction of several popular 70s and 80s groups - UM Jubileers, Devlin MacDonald & I, We the Undersigned - and he often laughingly recalled his "neveractuallydidagig" experiences with the start of the iconic Mission Mountain Wood Band. He and (future wife) Valorie Lenz enjoyed a very gratifying association with the world-travelling Couer d' Alene - based "Vocal Point".
In 1982, Tom & Val wrangled his brothers Jeff and Greg in creating the lounge band "Devlin-Lenz Connection" holding forth as the house band at the Missoula Red Lion for several years.
Polson's new Red Lion will be the gathering site for memories, music, prayers and celebration of Thomas's life at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017. A memorial Mass will be arranged at a later date.
