Obituary for
Ruth Anne Lewis
Ruth Ann Mackey Lewis, died peacefully at the age of 96 years and 11 months on June 18th in Polson, MT. She was born July 10, 1917 at Fair Hill Maryland, to the late Margaret Miller Mackey and Henry Howard Mackey.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Patricia (Ralph) Stevens of Polson, MT, Deborah Lewis (Morteza Vahabzadeh) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Monica and Matthew; niece Laura Mackey's family of Newark, Delaware; Linda (Ken) Minor of Connecticut; Frances Mackey's family of Greensboro, Maryland; Samuel Dorsey and Ruth Ann Dorsey of Newark, Delaware; Karen (James) Ware of Northeast, Maryland; additional survivors include nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, the children of Ralph Stevens and their children. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband James C. Lewis and her four siblings.
Ruth completed her nurses training as well as her RN in Wilmington, Delaware. She became a Navy nurse after obtaining her RN. Her Naval career during WWII took her to Guam, Farragut, Idaho, and the dispensary in Washington, DC.
When Ruth left the Navy she had achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander. She continued to keep her RN current through courses at John Hopkins and did private duty nursing for members of her church and the community.
Visitation will be at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 Stockton Street, Elkton, MD. Following the visitation will be a brief service starting at 10:00A.M. After the service for Ruth, internment with full military honors will take place at Sharps Cemetery, Fair Hill, MD.
The family extends an invitation to join them to celebrate her life at Rock Presbyterian Church immediately following the internment.
