Ronald Dean Knutson
Ronald Dean Knutson, 77 of Polson, Montana passed away on March 4, 2016 after a long illness. Ronald "Ron" was born February 1, 1939 in Polson, Montana to Alfred and Mary (Brown) Knutson. The fifth of six children, Ron grew up in Polson, during which time he worked on a paddleboat, roaming Flathead Lake.
He joined the Army in 1955, and after basic training was stationed in Alaska where he served honorably for four years. Upon leaving the military, Ron returned to Montana where he worked for the US Forest Service, and then later worked for, and retired from Plum Creek Lumber Company after 35 years.
While living in Polson, Ron met and fell in love with Barbara "Barb" Wells, a widow, with three young children. Ron and Barb were married on July 21, 1967. The following year Barbara gave birth to a daughter, and their family was complete. Ron was a generous, outgoing individual who gave freely of his time and energy. He was a member of the Polson Volunteer Fire Department, VFW, Eagles and Elks. Ron was an active outdoorsman who believed family time was best enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hunting, and grilling.
Ronald "Ron" Knutson was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Alfred Knutson.
Ron is survived by his wife of 48 years Barbara Knutson, and children, William Knutson; John and wife Sandi Knutson; Debra Knutson; Kathrine (Knutson) and husband Chris Martarella; (10) grandchildren, (8) great – grandchildren; siblings, Ida (Knutson) Combs; Albert and wife Norma Knutson; Lilburn Knutson; Wilburn (Clayton) Knutson; and Ella (Knutson) Hintz; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He taught us honesty, responsibility and showed us the joy of family. He will be forever loved and missed.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 409 4th Ave E, Polson, Montana. Military honors will follow in front of the church.
