Robert Meyer Peregoy also known as Bob Peregoy, passed away from natural causes that took all of us by surprise. Bob was born on April 14, 1947 to Francis Nathan and Donna Mae (Meyer) Peregoy in San Francisco CA.
Bob graduated from High School in Madera, CA. He went on and graduated with a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1969. He further matriculated to complete his MPA in Public Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1971. In 1979 he graduated with his Ed. D. from Montana State University in which he created the Native American Studies program. He then attended law school full time and received his Jurist Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.
From 1991 to 1996 he was Chief Appellate Court Judge for Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes in Pablo, Montana.
From 1984 to 1999 he was Senior Staff Attorney for the Native American Rights Fund (NARF), Boulder, Colorado. His duties and responsibilities included managing attorney of NARF's Washington, D.C. office; director of Legislative Affairs; and member of Litigation Management Committee. Practice involved litigation and advocacy on behalf of Indian tribes, organizations, and individuals in judicial, legislative, and executive branches of federal, state, and tribal governments.
From 1999 to 2001 he started Robert M. Peregoy Law Office and Consulting Services, Solo Practitioner.
Bob started his long-term career at Salish Kootenai College in 2001 to the time of his unexpected death. He served the college as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (2002-04). Director, Office of Institutional Research and Director, Office of Career and Technical Education from 2001 to present.
Bob was recipient of the 2014 SKC Bitterroot Award for fundraising efforts that have created the strong roots that enable Salish Kootenai College to flourish.
"The Bitterroot has been an important staple to the people of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe since the beginning of time. It represents strength, nourishment, and sustainability and recognizes attributes to Bob's fundraising and value the contributions he has made to SKC's institution."
He is survived by his beloved dog Bandit; brother, Dr. John Peregoy and Fraggles the dog of Polson, Montana; his sister Susan Peregoy-Boyle of Mill Valley, CA; his close friends and his Salish Kootenai College family he loved.
A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11 A.M. on the Salish Kootenai Campus in the Arlee/Victor Theatre in Pablo, Montana. Urn burial will be held privately at a later date.
