Obituary for
Robert John Johnson
Robert John Johnson, son of John Ole Johnson and Ruth (Munson) Johnson, died on June 12, 2013. He was born in Barnum, Minnesota on August 15, 1923 and lived in the general vicinity until he moved to Bremerton, Washington in 1942 and began working at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until 1944 when he was drafted into the Army. He served in from 1947 to 1952 in WWII and then from 1951 to 1952, he served in the Naval Reserves during the Korean War. In between military service, he returned to the Navy Yard until he transferred to Sand Point, Seattle where he retired as an electronic technician from the federal government in 1978. He married Beulah (Bea) Anna Sweeney on February 9, 1947. They lived in Port Orchard, Washington until they moved to Polson in 1979. They raised four children son Ron (Candace) Johnson, and daughters Charlene Santos, Becky (Jim) Hawkins, and Rhonda (Wayne Jordheim) Lieseke. Grandchildren include Matt (Gayle) Sikorski, Dori (Chris) Carnahan, Matthew (Jody) Santos, Alysha (Paul) Santos-Rodiquez, Nicholas (Jennifer) Lieseke, Hannah (Joey) Hawkins, Amanda Hawkins, Micah Santos, Nicole (Greg) Blandford. Preceded in death is grandson Russell Lieseke. Bob and Bea, as they are known to friends, also have 14 great grandchildren, Christianna, Harlie, Anthony, Ki-Lee, Raeanna, Presley, Dylan, Noah, Justin, Kaelan, Payton, Neveah, Owen, Diesel, and another one due in September, Isahia. Bob has one surviving sister, Doris Lundquist of Seattle, Washington. Bob's hobbies included scuba diving, archery, gardening, bird watching, camping, photography, card playing, and woodworking, as well as serving as a volunteer fireman in Big Arm. He would often hum or sing while he worked, entertaining those who were lucky enough to work with him. His many talents of woodworking can be seen at the First Baptist Church of Polson, as he was a dedicated member who donated many months building the church. Though our father was ravaged by Alzheimer's, he remembered his beloved wife until the very end.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 12:00 at the First Baptist Church in Polson. Burial will take place in Washington. Grogan Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
