Obituary for Robert Arthur Henry Adams

Robert Arthur Henry Adams, age 82, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Village Health Care in Missoula, MT. Bob was born on August 26, 1931 in the house that his father built in Somers, MT. He was the youngest of three children with two doting older sisters. He was fortunate to have two wonderful and loving parents. He attended primary school in Somers and graduated from Flathead County High School in Kalispell, MT in 1949.

Following high school Bob enrolled at the University of Montana in Missoula. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February of 1951 and was trained as an Air Police Supervisor in New Mexico and Florida prior to being deployed to Munich Germany. He married his first wife Bonnie Jean Cox of Kalispell in Munich in October 1952 and this is where their first child Sandra was born in 1953. Bob was honorably dis-charged from the Air Force in November of 1954.

Upon returning from Germany Bob worked for his father-in-law, C. S. Cox of Montana Steel in Kalispell where his son Mark was born in 1955. He later re-enrolled in the Business school at the University of Montana. He worked in family housing at the University and at the Highlander Brewery. Bob graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1961. While working in Missoula and studying at the University his second son Matt was born in 1957.

After graduating from the University, Bob began his career with the U.S. Forest Service. He initially worked in the Regional Office in Missoula and later worked on the Deer Lodge National Forest in Butte MT where his fourth child Christopher was born in 1962. He and his family returned to Missoula where Bob worked on the Lolo National Forest. In 1968 Bob transferred to the Clearwater National Forest in Orofino, ID where he retired in 1984. While working on the Lolo National Forest he met his second wife Delores Pavel-Fisher who blessed him with his fifth child and second daughter Donna.

Bob was a loving and caring father who taught his children self reliance, perseverance, and hard work. The measure of his success is the five children he raised who have all built meaningful lives and have had very successful careers.

Bob loved to fish and play golf. He enjoyed hunting, cooking and eating! He spent many of his retirement years traveling around the U.S. visiting his children and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Hedges (Jim) Adams and Leah Adams (Poirier) of Somers, and his sister Janice Redmond of Kalispell.

He is survived by his sister Wilma Merchant (Guy) of Wichita Falls, TX, daughter Sandra Hackler (Steve) of Missoula, sons Mark Adams ( Candace) of Fredericksburg, VA, Matt Adams (Tracy) of San Diego, CA, Chris Adams (Kathyrn) of Houston, TX and daughter Donna Sheets (Scott) of Lewiston, ID. Bob was blessed with eighteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

God of faithfulness, in Your wisdom You have called Your servant Robert out of this world; release him from the bonds of sin, and welcome him into Your Presence, so that he may enjoy eternal light and peace and be raised up in glory with all Your saints. Amen.
