Obituary for
Richard E. Johnson
Richard "Dick" Johnson, 73, of Polson, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, of a brain hemorrhage.
He was born on December 17, 1941, in St. Ignatius, to Rex and Veda Johnson. Dick was raised in Charlo on their family farm and attended Charlo public school. After school he joined the military and served as a U.S. Marine. Returning home he continued to help on the family farm. He also worked for a couple of lumber mills spending most of his years at Plum Creek. He started out pulling the chain and for the last 20 or so years he was a certified lumber grader. He enjoyed retirement and being able to make all of the horse sales that he wanted to go to.
On August 25, 1973 he married Rose Marie Prepodnik and they shared 41 happy years together. Both enjoyed raising Arabian horses. Some of Dick's favorite memories were riding his favorite horse Fox on many different trails, especially in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. He loved hunting and fishing and a good stiff drink of Black Velvet and Coke, which was usually followed by some tall tales. He shared his love for horses with his family and loved to take the grandkids for a ride on the pony.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Rose, and by his grandson, Cody Hall, and by his parents, Rex and Veda.
Survivors include his three children and their families, Christy (Curt) Johnson of Polson, Brad (Michelle) Johnson of Valdosta, GA and Sara (Shayne) Hall of Kalispell, five beautiful granddaughters, Ashley, Kelsie, Summer, Madisyn and Emily, along with his four sisters and four brothers.
A memorial service and potluck dinner will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the Johnson home at 4 p.m. Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Dick's life. His ashes will be spread at a later date.
