Patricia “Patty” Rae Cutler Arie, 78, passed away Wednesday morning, September 25, 2019 peacefully at her home.
Patty was born on May 17, 1941, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to the late Thelma and David Cutler of Polson, Montana. Patty was a graduate of St. John’s School of Nursing in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and received her Masters of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. Patty also obtained her Private Pilot License and loved to fly single engine aircraft.
Patty had an accomplished career as a Registered Nurse, Nursing Coordinator, and Director of Nursing. She also was an Instructor of Practical Nursing at Central Technology Center Drumright, Oklahoma, and Indian Meridian Technology in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She finished her long career of nursing instruction at the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo, Montana. Patty was a contributing author, reviewer and item writer of numerous nursing textbooks and publications, including the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. She served on the Board of Directors for the National League of Nursing and the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing. Upon retirement Patty was honored with a blanket ceremony by the Salish Kootenai College.
Patty is survived by her husband, David, of Polson, Montana. Three daughters, Laura Laing Gordon of Aiken, South Carolina, Libby Waddell and her husband Wes of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Lydia Laing Hockemeyer of Coppell, Texas. Her only son Bruce Laing and his wife Kelley of Grapevine, Texas. Seven grandchildren, Molly Gordon, Madeline and Macie Waddell, Ryan and Emily Hockemeyer, and Kylie and Hannah Moreland. She also has numerous relatives in the Flathead Valley area.
