Obituary for Mark Anthony McCarthy

Mark A. McCarthy, also known as 'Mick' or 'Crash', 54, of Polson, MT, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson after a long battle with cancer. Mick was born on August 15, 1956 in Scranton, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Emily McCarthy. Mick was very laid back and loved to party. He had many good friends both in Scranton, PA and in western Montana. He once had the privilege of playing a game of pool with Willie Nelson after buying him a shot of Jack Daniels. He was also a big sports fan. He loved the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Yankees and the Chicago Black Hawks. He loved magic and wood crafting projects as well. He owned Montana Wood Furniture and pieces of his work can be found in many of the bars and restaurants in western Montana. He also worked a variety of other jobs and even worked a stint as a 'real cowboy' on a ranch in Charlo, MT. Mick will be sorely missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his daughter, Tara (and Mick's grandson, Ronson) and a son, Joseph, all of Ronan: a sister, Pat Gillespie and her husband John of Scranton, PA: a brother, Joseph McCarthy and his children, Luke, Mack, and Lara of Honolulu, HI: a very special Aunt Birdie and uncle Eddie Goodfield, and many cousins in Pennsylvania. Also, a special thanks to his good friends Harry Fritsch and Scott Stuart for taking good care of Mick throughout his illness. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com. The staff of Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson, considers it a privilege to care for Mick's family.
