Marion Eloise Barnaby McCoy
Marion Eloise Barnaby McCoy, 90, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011, at her home in Pablo with her daughter by her side. Marion was born in Ronan on February 23, 1921, to Alice Clairmont Barnaby (Cowan) and Maxim Barnaby. She attended the UrsulineSchool in St. Ignatius. She later movedto California where she was a food services supervisor at Cal Poly in San Luis Obisbo, where she retired. She was a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, and longed to live out her last years at home on the Flathead Indian Reservation. Her daughter helped her achieve that goal in 2000. Marion loved her grandchildren dearly and treasured their visits. She took great pride in her home, which she decorated with many butterflies, Indian dolls and figurines. She was preceded in death by her parents: her son, Gerald 'Sonny' Hagen: brothers, Howard Barnaby, Gene Cowan and George Cowan: and sisters, Wanda Strong and Lois Abbate Marion is survived by her daughter, Denise Lorraine Pugmire: son, H.E. 'Butch' Burland: sister, Vivian Frasier: sister-in-law, Joan Cowan: grandchildren, Monique Resendez, and Brandi, Braden (Lisa) and Sage Burland: great-grandchildren, Ricki Marie Resendez, and Lily and Marley Burland: nieces Judy Lehto, Lisa Stinger and Synde Long, and many other nieces and nephews. Cremation will take place and a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Sacred Heart Parish in Ronan. Flowers may be left at the church beginning at 5:30 p.m. A potluck meal will follow the service at the Ronan Indian Senior Citizens Center.
