Obituary for
Lucille Theresa Smith
Lucille Theresa Smith passed away peacefully on the morning of November 21, 2012. She was born to Robert (Bob) and Mary Nessler on July 16, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York. The family moved from Brooklyn to St. Albans in October of 1925.
Lucille attended Public School 136 in St. Albans through the eighth grade and then went on to Jamaican High School. In January of 1944 Lucille went to work for AT&T with her life-long friend Marie. In September of 1945, Lucille and Marie transferred to Seattle, WA. During their time in Seattle, Marie met Robert (Bob) Smith. In March of 1946, Bob, Marie and Lucille went on vacation to New York and on their way they spent a week in Polson. During their stay in Polson, Lucille was introduced to Bob's brother Allen. Allen traveled to New York with them to be the best man at Bob and Marie's wedding. In September of 1946, Allen returned to New York to attend Hemphell Diesel Engineering School. On November 23 of that year Allen and Lucille were married.
In 1947, Allen and Lucille moved to Polson where Lucille found herself far from family and in a much different world than New York. Within a couple of years Lucille found her hands full raising four boys, Bill in 1949, Allen John in 1951, and twins Don and Ken in 1953. Her days were filled with washing, changing diapers, and keeping the home.
In her later years, if Lucille was not busy doing the books for Smith Building, you would find her lunching with her friends or spending time with her boys and grandchildren.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her son Donald. She is survived by her sons Bill (Vickie), Allen John (Beth), Ken (Lora), and daughter-in-law Barb, all of Polson; 10 grandchildren, Lori, Todd, Kassandra, Lynn, Mandy, Chad, Allen, Lindsay, Lyle, and Dusty; 10 step-grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 11 great, great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 23rd from 3:00-6:00 pm at Grogan Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 24th at 10:00 am at Grogan Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Lake View Cemetery following the service. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge in Polson.
