Obituary for
Lee Vi Michel
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle Lee Vi Michel (57). His quick wit, sly chuckle and bright smile will be greatly missed. Lee started his journey on April 12, 2017, to join in his brother Mathias “Junior’ Michel’s heavenly birthday celebration.
He was born in Polson, Montana to Mathias “Matt” and Lucy Michel on March 14, 1960, and raised in Dayton and later attended school in Polson, Montana.
A proud full blood member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and ATV riding with his lifelong friends jokingly known as the “Orphans”. He worked many years at Salish and Kootenai Electronics, but also enjoyed a variety of jobs such as logging, Alaska fishing boat crew member, wild land fire fighter, tree planting, YCC fence building, post and pole cutter, and enjoyed cultural events, cutting firewood and Christmas trees for fun with his friends and family.
He became an accomplished hide tanner in his younger years when married to Cindy Antiste where they lived in Big Arm with her grandfather Joe. He often would talk about the stories Joe would tell and how he taught him to tan hides, and was greatly enriched by the time he spent in Big Arm before they divorced. He later met and married Charmel Tellier and had one son. The greatest pride in his life was for his son Jimmy Lee. He intently followed all his basketball games, sporting events, birth of his grandchildren, and would often visit him at work and play.
Those who have gone before him are; his parents, Mathias “Matt” and Lucy Michel; brothers, Mathias “Junior”, Keith; sister, Linda; brother-in-law, Ron Glenmore Seminole; nephews, Jacob Michel, Mathias III Michel, Leo Hammer; nieces, Rene Hunter Strahan, Echo Michel; and Kim Rogers-Glenmore. He is survived by his son Jimmy Lee (Victoria) Michel, and grandchildren, Jameis, Kyson; Pablo, MT; brothers, Wilbert (Bev) Michel, Polson, MT; Gilbert (Eudora) Michel, Elmo, MT; Victor (Linnea), Lindenhurst, IL; Leonard (Melissa) Michel, Ronan, MT; and sisters; Diane, Dayton, MT; Geneva, Busby, MT.; His aunts Mary Stasso, Arlee and Louise Stasso Arlee; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
