James E. McDevitt (Jim), age 85, passed into the next world with a prayer on his lips for the Lord’s forgiveness on October 20, 2018 in Polson, Montana. He was born on May 20, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to James W and Margaret McDevitt.
Jim was a veteran having served two years with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea from 1951 to 1953. He was a retired banker having served in the profession since 1956.
Jim is survived by his wife and best friend, Shirley. They enjoyed 32 beautiful years together full of love and amazing adventures. He is also survived by four children and four grandchildren: son James W. (wife Audrey, grandson Ryan, granddaughter Daizy) of Palmdale, CA; son Craig Cannon of Bishop, CA; daughter Carla Azling (husband Jay, granddaughter Chandler, grandson Landon) of Villa Park, CA; and son Steve Cannon of Sioux Falls, SD.
Jim is also survived by two of his three sisters, Sally Gould of Westerville, OH, and Linda Flowers of Orient, Ohio. His third sister, Carol Eisel of Grove City, Ohio preceded him to heaven in April, 2018. He is also survived by his brother in spirit, Bill Allen, and his dear wife, Allie, of Basset, NE. Jim, Shirley, Bill and Allie enjoyed traveling together and shared a special bond of laughter and love. Jim also considers the Officers and Staff of Lake County Bank and First Citizens Bank as part of his beloved and extended family.
One of Jim’s greatest honors was his induction into the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Council 6260 and a member of the Bishop Gilmore Assembly in Kalispell, MT. Along with his community involvement, Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting with his wife, Shirley, as well as many visits to California to visit family and friends.
Mass is being offered at Immaculate Conception Parish on Thursday, October 25th at 10:30am. Military honors will follow Mass outside the church. In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested any memorial to be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 6260 c/o Immaculate Conception Parish, Polson, MT.
