James R. Detert
James R. Detert, 61, of St. Ignatius, MT, passed into the loving arms of his savior on February 25, 2011. He was born November 23, 1949 in Great Falls, MT. He was adopted by Herman and Hazel Detert at a young age, one of his happiest memories. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1969. He moved to Devils Lake, ND in the early 70's. He attended Lake Region Community College in 1972 and worked for his uncle until the early 80's. In 1974 he married Jackie Hoeltl and was blessed with four children. In 1983 he attended the North Dakota State School of Science Culinary Arts Program. He was a 'jack of all trades', working several different jobs over his many years in Devils Lake. His life journey led him back to the Mission Valley to aid his parents until their passing. He enjoyed several hobbies: woodworking, fishing, camping, quilting, and cooking. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hazel Detert: aunts Marie Detert and Verna Lensman: uncles Harvey Detert, Alvin Detert, George Johnson, Arthur Johnson, and grandsons Christian Stavem and Charles Stavem. He is survived by his four children, Jennifer (Kurt) Stavem of Minot, ND, Lisa (Shane) Downing of Marysville, WA, Ben (Chelce) Detert of Minot, ND, and Mark (Rebeka) Detert also of Minot, ND: a sister, Keela (Dave) Forthun: a brother, Johnny (Jamie) Detert: former wife, Jackie Spychalla: six grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, 2:30 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church in St. Ignatius where visitation will begin two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, St. Ignatius and a reception will be held at the St. Ignatius Senior Center following the graveside service.
