Howard Harold Welty
Howard Harold 'Butch' Welty passed away on Wednesday March 11, 2015 at age 83 in Polson, Montana after a brief illness. He was born to Harold and Violet Welty in Wheaton, Minnesota on March 19th, 1931 and moved to Everett, Washington in 1943 along with his parents and elder sister Opal.
After graduating from Everett High School in 1949 he enlisted in the Marine Corps prior to the outbreak of the Korean War where he participated in the Battle of Inchon in September 1950. He attained the rank of Staff Sargent and was honorably discharged in 1954.
Howard married his wife of 55 years Margaret Dowty in Everett, Washington on June 12th, 1959 where they settled for the next 30 years and raised their 3 children Dan, Donald and Amy. He fell in love with the 'Big Sky' State of Montana and in 1991 he and Marge purchased a home on Flathead Lake in Polson, Montana where they took up permanent residence.
In Polson, they made many friends and always tried to reciprocate the kindness and hospitality of those they encountered in their adopted town. He was a fixture at the Polson VFW where he served as commander, played pitch and imbibed with friends and acquaintances in the place he felt most at home.
He is survived his loving wife Margaret, his three children Dan (Lisa), Don (Barb) and Amy, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as many extended family members.
