Herbert Ray Stanley, 87, of Polson, Mt., went home to be in the arms of Jesus on May 27, 2021. He was born on October 3, 1933 in Columbia Falls, Mt. to Herbert and Margaret Stanley.
Ray grew up in Columbia Falls and went to work at Plum Creek on the dry chain shortly after graduating from high school. Taking a break from the lumber mill, he joined the army with his active-duty date beginning May 22, 1953. Stationed in Germany with Co. G 2nd Armored Cavalry (light vehicle driver), he was honorably discharged on May 7, 1955.
Ray married Dolores Jean Rohrer on November 17,1955 in Kalispell. He continued working for Plum Creek and transferred to the Pablo extension shortly after it opened in 1958. There he loaded box cars for 42 years and retired in October 1995.
Ray loved to fish and hunt. He also loved and enjoyed his church family at Polson Alliance Church.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife Dolores, his son Russell, sister Connie Peck and parents Herbert and Margaret Stanley.
He is survived by his sister Peggy Wicks of Columbia Falls, sons Rory Stanley (Jeanne) of Arlington Heights, Ill., Rocky Stanley of Polson, and daughter Laurie Miller (Don) of Polson. Ray has five grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
