Obituary for
Helen G. Hutchin
Helen G. Hutchin passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013. God needed her to be an angel along with her beloved grandson, KC Wray Hutchin and her beloved husband, Wray C Hutchin.
Helen was born the 7th child to Ernest MacDonald and Olive Roe, March 15, 1931 in Wolf Point, Montana. In 1936, the small family farm house they lived in burned to the ground. The family lost everything and Eastern Montana was fast becoming a dust bowl. Ernest decided to "go west" with little belongings and a dream of getting a job in slightly more prosperous Western Montana.
They landed in Proctor, Montana. Ernest found various farm and ranch jobs and Olive found work as a cook on Wild Horse Island at the now historic "Hiawatha Lodge". The work continued for a few years. Meanwhile Helen started school in Proctor but the family moved to an old house on some small acreage Northeast of Ronan in the North Crow area. Here they began a small farm, raising a big garden, a couple of milk cows and some chickens. Helen transferred to school in Ronan. In early 1948 she met the love of her life, Wray Hutchin. They were married Sept. 26, 1948 and began a life of 51 years together living in Polson until Wray passed away on Jan. 16, 1999.
Their wonderful marriage produced 2 sons, Michael Wray and Ernest Roy who both graduated from Polson High School and went off to college. Wray worked for the Lake County Road Dept. from 1957 until retiring in 1991.
Helen worked at the Security State Bank for 14 years. They built their dream home on Indian Bay in 1972. Helen and Wray loved it there and enjoyed the lake immensely.
Helen was a loving, giving woman, visiting many sick friends and relatives, doing whatever she could to lift spirits and bring a homemade treat until her health started failing in 2009.
Helen is survived by her 2 sons, Mike Hutchin of Polson and Roy Hutchin of Kalispell, along with 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by 3 brothers – Angus, Art and Jim and 3 sisters – Elsie, Marion and Blodwin; her husband, Wray and her grandson, KC Wray.
No service is planned. Cremation has taken place and the remaining family will honor her with a private memorial with remains to be placed alongside Wray and KC. Messages of condolences may be shared with the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com.
