Obituary for
Gerald Schultz
Gerald "Gerrie" Schultz, age 72
Earth lost a good man Tuesday, June 5, 2012 when Gerald "Gerrie" Herbert Paul Schultz passed away. His heart loved so long and so hard, that it finally gave up.
Gerrie was born in Polson, Montana on December 4, 1939. His family traveled between Arizona and Montana until they finally settled in Arizona where he graduated from Phoenix Union High in 1957. After high school he served in the Navy for four years.
One of his many accomplishments that he was the most proud of was his 24 years of service to his community by being a full time firefighter for the Phoenix Fire Department. It was great for his family to be able to brag about that also. He used to tell any children that would visit the station that his bald spot was from going down the pole head first. Along with his years of service he was a successful business owner, several times over.
His lifelong goal was to retire and spend the rest of his days in Montana. He was able to achieve that goal when he and Diana, his wife of 30 years, moved back to his home town of Proctor while "snow birding" in Arizona in the winter.
Besides the sense of home that Montana gave him, it also made it possible for him to do all the things he loved. He was surrounded by his family and nature. He was able to spend his days fishing, fly fishing, shooting (especially gophers), traveling in an RV, and visiting with friends and family.
Family was one of the most important things to Gerrie. He was the proud father of Debra and James, and was always very good at keeping tabs on the rest of the clan.
Gerrie was preceded in death by his father Gerald B. Schultz and brother, Donald "Dutch" Schultz.
He is survived by his wife Diana Schultz, his mother Virginia Schultz, daughter Debra Schultz, son James Schultz, brother James E.L. Schultz and wife Chris; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as several other family members, friends and his faithful four-legged partner "Lucky," his little rescue dog.
We will no longer get that random call to check on us, or hear his voice that would always be willing to share a story or an opinion. Our world will never be the same, but now his world is free of pain and illness. We will see him again, and boy will he have a lot to tell us. Godspeed!
A memorial will be held at a later date.
