George Vulles
George Vulles, 75, of St. Ignatius, passed away of natural causes at St. Patrick's Hospital on Monday, July 18, 2011. He was born Jan. 8, 1936 in Plains, Montana, the youngest of 10 children born to Daisy (Meljie) and Mike Vulles. Growing up he lived and attended school in Twin Bridges, Perma, and Mullan, Idaho. Shortly after his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the Army, serving stateside. Throughout his lifetime he worked at many jobs, but mostly on road construction and forest fire fighting. George moved to the St. Ignatius area about 1970. After settling there he often did house sitting for many different people he knew. For a time he was a volunteer for the St. Ignatius Ambulance Service. Over the past several years, he could usually be found sitting at the counter at the Old Timer Cafe or one of the many other restaurants in the valley, drinking coffee, and reading or visiting with his many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and 7 brothers, Bobby, Mike, Don, Sam, Steve, Melvin, and Val. He is survived by his sisters, Darlene (Glen Rummel) of Plains and Dorothy Walbridge of Mullan, Idaho, several nieces and nephews, and Wes and Sandy MacDonald of Polson, and their daughter, Traci (Darrin) Reid of Missoula, who he always said were his family. George requested no formal services. Military honors will be presented at the St. Ignatius Senior Citizen Center, on Saturday, July 30, at noon, with a luncheon following.
