Gary Arden Riebe
Gary Arden Riebe passed away peacefully on February 28, 2015 after battling a lengthy illness. Gary was born in Polson, Montana on March 5, 1941 to Arden Riebe and Edith Hutchin. Gary's home was Polson and he worked numerous jobs in his life to be able to stay in Polson and raise his family. No matter the job, Gary took pride in doing it right.
Gary was an avid shotgun enthusiast. He loved hunting ducks and geese. He excelled in trap shooting and sporting clays. In 1975, Gary placed 5th in the Olympic try-outs in trap shooting. Gary loved to dance and taught ballroom dancing in Polson for many years. He met his beloved wife of 27 years, Vicki, when he asked her if she wanted to dance.
Gary loved to play cards and family gatherings always had some hot games of 31. The grandkids loved to win quarters from Poppa.
Preceding Gary in death were his mother and father, his grandparents Louis and Bertha Schwarz Riebe and William (Clem) and Rose Lee Hutchin, his aunt Harriet Riebe Bachert, his uncles Wray Hutchin and Art Schwarz.
Gary's survivors include his wife Vicki (Zumwalt), son Rick Riebe, daughters Becky Riebe-Noles (Frank Noles), Tracy Riebe-Ohler (Steve Vert Sr.) and Vicki's daughter Wendy Sturm (Scott Sturm). Also surviving are his grandchildren Angie Paisley, Brittany Sturm, Cassie Powell, Jolene Miller-Fisher, Keegan Ducharme, MacKenzie Riebe, Russell Ohler and Shiloh Ohler. He also has 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, a sister Marlene Riebe, brothers Tom Riebe and Terry Riebe, along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary will be missed by his loving family and friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church, 39098 Lakeview Drive with a luncheon to follow. The church is about a mile west of Polson off Kerr Dam Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Gary's name to his wonderful church home, Lakeview Baptist Church.
