Obituary for Elverda "Verdie" Malgren

Elverda 'Verdie' Malgren was born in Fergus Falls, MN., to Ethel and Martin Loge on August 25, 1922. She passed away April 28, 2012. Her father, Martin Loge, worked for the Rocky Mountain Elevator Company, so the family moved on the average of every two years. This being the case the family wanted to establish more secure roots and they settled in Polson when Elverda was nine years old. She graduated from Polson High School in 1940 and went on to Salt Lake City to be near her eldest sister, Elythe and to attend Business School. The two sisters were very fond of each other and spent a lot of time together. Elverda's education was disrupted by World War II and she had to move to Eugene, OR. to help her folks during the war years. During the war years she worked as a proof reader for the Eugene Register Guard. At the end of the war she married Mike Hughes who had just returned from the Pacific Theater having served on the PT Boats and returned to work for the Register Guard. Two children were born to this marriage, Donna Marie and Mike. In 1986, her husband Mike passed away and Elverda moved back to Polson. In 1988, she married Delbert Malgren. She is survived by her husband, Delbert: daughter, Donna Marie Watkins of Denver: son, Mike Hughes of Coos Bay, OR.: two step children, Christine Malgren of Polson and Ken Malgren of Boise, ID.: four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Elverda's remains will be interred at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Eugene, OR., and memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Polson or the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in Spokane, WA.
