Obituary for
Elsie Lydia Nygaard
Elsie Nygaard, 100, slipped away into the arms of Jesus on Friday, June 19, 2015, at her son's home in Trout Creek.
Elsie was born April 26, 1915, on a farm near Lignite, North Dakota, to Henry and Emelia Schuman. She was the 4th of 9 children. Her family migrated to Seqium, WA. in 1937 during the Dust Bowl.
On September 9th, 1939 Elsie married Henry Nygaard, and together they raised 5 children on a farm near Lignite N.D. and in the Pablo-Polson area. While living in Pablo, she cooked at the school cafeteria for 15 years. Her freshly baked bread and cinnamon rolls were legendary. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and had the most beautiful flowers.
Wherever she lived, Elsie was always an active member of the Lutheran Church, and raised her family with love, hope, and a strong faith in God.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry; sons Jerry and James; and daughter-in-law Twila Nygaard.
She is survived by her son Richard Nygaard of Trout Creek; daughters Dyan (Bruce) Lawrence of Missoula, and Myrna (Gordon) Roesler of Nevada; and daughter-in-law Virginia Nygaard of Polson. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was special to us all and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to give special thanks to Clark Fork Valley Hospital Hospice, who provided great comfort and care to Elsie.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28th, at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Polson, with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Ronan, MT. on Monday.
