Obituary for
Elizabeth "Betty" Cook
After struggling with health issues, Betty Cook, 86, of Polson, MT, peacefully passed away in her sleep on the morning of September 28, 2011 at the Polson Health Rehabilitation Center. Betty was born on May 15, 1925 to Colonel Charles Clifton Agar and Dorothy Thompson Agar in Holden, Massachusetts. She had a great childhood growing up with her three brothers in the Albany, NY area. She met and married William 'Bill' Cook on June 18, 1949. They had two children, Ken and Karen. She moved around the Mid-West and Eastern United States with her family as Bill was a marketing sales rep for several communications companies. In June of 1973, she moved to Melbourne, Florida where, while homemaking, she started to get involved in a variety of community functions. During her thirty-two years in Florida, Bett ydonated several thousand hours to the local hospital auxiliary and the Brevard County School District. She was also very active in many committees at the local Methodist Church. She worked at the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, greeting residents and visitors with her great smile and positive attitude. In December of 2005, Betty and Bill moved out to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. Shortly after arriving out west, Betty soon integrated herself into the community of Polson. She was active with the VFW Women's Auxiliary, donated hours to volunteer at the Country Store thrift shop, the WIC office and had many hours on a variety of projects with RSVP volunteers. She was much loved by family and the many friends that she had both in Polson and in Florida. Even after her health issues forced her to give up the many things she loved to do, she always had a smile to give the caring staff at Polson Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, Chuck Agar, brother, Jim Agar, and sister-in-law, Chris Agar. She is survived by her husband, Bill Cook, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Gertie Agar, sister-in-law, Gene Agar, daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Sargeant, son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Robin Cook, three grandsons, Philip, Nathan, and Adam, granddaughter-in-law, Heather and great grandson, Teagen. She is also survived by several cousins and many beloved nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Betty will be missed by all who experienced her smile, laugh, and her 'get-it-done' attitude. Betty's Memorial Service will be held on October 29th at 10:00 AM at the Polson United Methodist Church. Come and celebrate her life that she intertwined with us.
