Obituary for Edmond Lester Dupuis

Edmond Lester Dupuis passed away peacefully at his home in Apache Junction, Arizona on January 17, 2015 while surrounded by people who loved him. He was born on July 19, 1918 on the south shore of Flathead Lake to Edwin and Claira Dupuis. His brother, Lyle preceded him in death, while his sister Liberty Bauer lives in Missoula.

In his early years Lester worked in the timber industry with his father and then later operated a ranch in Pablo with his wife of 60 years, Faye who preceded him in death in 2000. They had four children
together: Carolyn Peterson (deceased), Joe Dupuis of Pablo, John Dupuis (deceased), and Cathi Dupuis of Pablo.

Born into a heritage of community activism and service, Lester followed his father's footsteps and
served on the Confederated Salish & Kootenai tribal council. He also served on the Tribal Credit
Committee. Lester was an active member of the New Life Christian Center community in Polson.
In 2001, Lester married Joan Earnhardt of Yakima, Washington. They spent their summers on the east
shore of Flathead lake after clearing the family lot for themselves and spent their winters in
Apache Junction, Arizona.

Lester's legacy and traditions will be carried on by a large and growing family including:
grandchildren, Leslie Becker of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Sheri Olson of Mesa, Arizona; David
Peterson of Kensington, California; Jacques Dupuis of Portland, Oregon; Jean Dupuis of Portland,
Oregon; Jennifer Dupuis of Lewiston, Idaho; Jonelle Dupuis, Texas; Josh Dupuis of Portland, Oregon; Sky Dupuis Shortman of Pablo, Montana; Edmond Dupuis of Pablo, Montana; and Jared Dupuis of Pablo, Montana; step-grandchildren, Leroy Black, Paul Black, Lila Black, Josiah Black and Vivian Black; great-grandchildren, Sheri's family: Donald (Bucky), Nicki and Casey; Jean's family: Nathan and Natalie — Jonelle's family: Gabrielle, Jessa and Jean-Henry — Jennifer's family: Shandyn Fyant and Edwin — Josh's family: Clair — Sky's family: Issabella, Kulilu and Vaughnan — Leroy's family: Leroy III, Lucus, KJ, Ashley, Nikki, Terrence, LaRose and Tony — Lila's family: Kayden, Dillon, Jeremiah, Benjamin and Russel — Josiah's family: DeAndré — Vivian's family: Brian and Caleb.

Lester leaves a legacy of faith, peace, constancy, self-discipline, hard work, generosity and humor. His
family is grateful beyond words for the gift of his life that we have been honored to share and
uphold. He told us to take care of everything from animals to machinery to our family. He'd say "if
you treat them right, they'll treat you right." When faced with problems or giving advice, he'd say
"just hold steady, it will come around." And he had a bible verse for every situation.

Viewing will occur at The Lake Funeral Home(formerly Grogan Funeral Home) in Polson on Friday January 23rd from 2pm to 9pm. Funeral services will be celebrated Saturday, January 24th at 3pm at the New Life Christian Center in Polson followed by burial at the Ronan Cemetery. A reception of fellowship and story-telling will be held back at the church after graveside ceremonies have completed. People are welcome to remain at the church if they do not want to brave the cold.
