Obituary for Dorothy Mae Newton

Dorothy Mae Newton, age 92, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 to be with her Precious Savior Jesus. She was born in Henryetta, OK on June 30, 1925 to Lewis Harry and Leona Mary (Brink) Purcell.

The family moved to Tulsa, OK when Dorothy was five. Dorothy attended and finished high school at Holy Family Catholic School in Tulsa, OK.

Dorothy moved to Oklahoma City after graduation and worked there and met Lyle Newton who was stationed at Norman Oklahoma Naval Station. They were married in Gainesville, TX and when Lyle was discharged from the Navy they moved to Bloomfield, NE which was Lyle*s hometown. They started a family and bought a business in Bloomfield and were in it for thirty years and then sold the business and moved to Polson, MT where Dorothy worked for Schaffers Department Store and Cherry Valley School.

Her many interests were dancing, swimming, diving, ice skating and roller skating. In later life her interests turned to crafting. She attended many craft shows and her specialty was making cards which she sold to many businesses.

Dorothy and Lyle had three children, Sam, Susan and Richard. Susan passed away in 1980 from breast cancer at age 28 in Polson.

Dorothy and her husband loved to fish, hike and go camping. They had a full life of 56 years of marriage and loved their grandchildren and family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Newton and her husband Lyle, her parents and her brother L.H. Purcell.

She is survived by her son Sam Newton of Lincoln, NE; her son Richard Newton and wife Susan of Polson, MT; she was also blessed with two grandchildren, Jason Newton and Sarah Newton Cramer and one great-grandchild Newton Philip Cramer whom she all loved dearly.

There will be a visitation on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M at The Lake Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be private by the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to Young Life Ministries, 2902 SE Fir Street, Port Orchard, WA 98366.
