Cheryl Marie Mathias, age 74, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Logan Health in Kalispell, Montana surrounded by her family. She was born on July 16, 1950, in St. Ignatius, Montana to Paul and Bessie (Hewankorn) Mathias.
Cheryl had many adventures in her life that led her to travel all up the west coast, until she finally settled and lived the remainder of her life in Elmo.
She graduated from Davis High school in Union Gap, Yakima, WA. Her travels then took her to San Diego, California for a few years. That is where she attended and graduated Beauty School. After some time had passed, she moved back to Elmo. While living here in Elmo, Cheryl continued in her school and began to study Law at the University of Montana. After Cheryl graduated, she began working for the tribe. She had many occupations throughout her life, but she adored this one the most. Cheryl worked for the tribe at the Complex at their Legal Department for over 20 years, that is where Cheryl then retired.
Cheryl was a kind, mean (when she needed to be), caring, big-hearted person who was always willing to help others. If someone needed a place to stay, her door was always open. She loved to bead- throughout her years of life she beaded until she just could not bead anymore. She beaded anything from earrings, barrettes, moccasins, regalia, etc.
Cheryl Marie Mathias was preceded in death by both of her parents- Paul Mathias and Bessie Hewankorn; Virgil Mathias (brother), Gary Mathias (brother), Naida Lefthand (sister), son Drey Tenas, along with her grandparents.
She is survived by her sons Lionel Mathias (Laverne), Zachary Mathias (Tyra) Issaiah Mathias and Jesse Big Beaver, Coree Cadieux; brothers Reuben Mathias (Phylis) and Bud Mathias; her grandkids, Anthony Mathias, James Mathias (Doralee Ortiz), Hailey Joe (Jacob), Shayla Tohtsoni (Talon), Katelynn Mathias, Josie Mathias, Ivory Mathias, Illanna Mathias, Sakaiah Mathias and Annissa Mathias, as well as numerous great-grandkids and nieces and nephews.
