Obituary for
Carol J. Tietema
Carol June Tietema was born June 8, 1928 to Ray and Geraldine Conrad in Wolf Point, Montana, and passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 in Polson, Montana, at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her sister, Iris Schuster, and brothers Ross and Richard Conrad. Carol is survived by the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Sidney J. Tietema; two children: Lynn Van Nice of Helena, MT and Jim Tietema (Karen) of Houston, TX; two granddaughters: Erin Lanigan (Mat) of Helena, MT and Kelsey Van Nice of Brooklyn, NY; three great-grandchildren: Ainsley, George, and Maverick; and many other loving extended family.
Carol enjoyed playing bridge, going dancing with Sid, and never missed completing the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper. Her sweet and loving disposition easily made her friends wherever she went, and she quickly became an important part of many people's lives. Carol cherished time with her family and always ensured everyone was well-nourished with her delicious cooking.
Sid and Carol embarked upon many fishing, hunting, and camping adventures, always treasuring their time together. They traveled all over the world, living as close as Ronan and as far away as Saudi Arabia with more than a dozen homes in between, before retiring in Polson almost 25 years ago.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Polson Rehabilitation and Health Center for helping to care for Carol while she cared for Sid over the last two years, and to St. Joseph's Hospital, for taking care of her as she underwent her first-ever surgery this last September.
A celebration of life is being held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2PM at Grogan Funeral Home in Polson with a burial and reception to follow.
