Obituary for Calvin Ewel David

Calvin Ewel David left his earthly home to be with his God in heaven on November 2, 2017. He departed peacefully while sleeping. Born January 17, 1927 in Balch, Arkansas his family later moved to Fisher, Arkansas where he attended school. Always adventurous, life became more so when he left home at the age of 14 to travel the country, on his own, via trains. While traveling to the west coast he paused and worked at various jobs learning many useful skills. Arriving in Portland, OR he enlisted in the Navy during WWII and trained at several Naval Amphibious and Air Technical Training Centers. After completion of training he served aboard the USS LST 918, an LST 542 class tank landing ship, in the Asiatic-Pacific theater taking part in several landings. During one landing operation Calvin was blown off his ship and spent time on the USS Mercy, a military hospital ship, later transferring to US Navy hospital in San Diego where it was determined that his injuries effectively ended his service career.

He was discharged in September, 1944. While in San Diego he met and married Mary Anne Gochis. Together they had a family consisting of four sons, John, (Sheri), Ronald, (Pam), Donald (Becky) and Richard (Sharron). During this time Calvin worked as an ironworker superintendent and owner of several small businesses while living in Colorado, Arizona and Utah. In 2003 Mary Anne died and in 2004 he married Cherie Deane David. They later relocated to Polson, MT.

Calvin is survived by his wife Cherie, son John David (Sheri), brother Bobbie Jean David (Deanna), sister Betty Wise, son Ronald David (Pam), and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cremation will be at The Lake Funeral Home, Polson. Calvin will be interred with his youngest son Richard in Hyrum, UT in the spring where a celebration of his life will be held.
